About the event
In this four hour training, 10 a.m.-2p.m., break for lunch, you get an overview of our mission, starting with a quick a slide show. You will see historic maps and learn about this historic, Oak Tree Farm area and the family who lived here in the Fruitvale District of Oakland from 1884-now. Be amazed as we tour the stick style Victorian architecture and admire the eastlake style craftsmanship used to build this house and the restoration we are doing to maintain it.
After Lunch in the garden, explore and learn about the property; the buildings in the back, and our wooden window workshop. The 1/2 acre of garden, has huge trees, heirloom and native plants, flowers and vegetable boxes. Inside this unique house is a time capsule full of one family's collections of written documentation, letters, photographs, clothing, art, ceramics, books, furniture, flooring and wallpapers.
